Hiring teams can look at hundreds of resumes a day, and glance at each one for 6-7 seconds. How can you take your resume to the next level, and gain the attention of these teams?

Here are three simple ways to get you to an interview:

Use a visually appealing layout

A visually appealing layout can make your resume stand out from the competition. Use headings, bullet points, and white space to break up the content and make it easier to read. Use bold or italicized text to highlight important information. If you are searching for a creative position, this is an opportunity to highlight your design and software skills. Use color and variations of fonts sparingly.

Quantify your accomplishments

In addition to listing your responsibilities and duties, include specific examples of your accomplishments and the results you achieved. Use numbers, percentages, and other metrics to show the impact of your work. For example, instead of saying “increased sales,” you could say “increased sales by 20% over the previous year through the implementation of a new marketing strategy.”

Customize your resume for the job you apply to

Rather than sending out the same generic resume to every employer, take the time to tailor your resume to each specific job and company. This means highlighting the skills and experience that are most relevant to the job you are applying for and using language that is aligned with the company’s values and culture.

For example, if the job posting emphasizes teamwork and collaboration, you could include specific examples of how you have worked effectively in a team in the past. If the company values innovation, you could highlight any creative problem-solving skills you have.

Customizing your resume for each job can show the employer that you have a genuine interest in their company and are the best fit for the role. It can also help your resume stand out from other candidates who are applying for the same position.
